Laminated Glass

Laminated Glass

PRL is excited to have an In house lamination line and we are able to offer you custom made laminated glass with the fastest lead times in the industry. Laminated glass is another option used when safety glass is required. It can be manufactured using glass that is annealed, heat strengthened or tempered and can be made up using different glass types including: tinted, reflective, patterned, and or mirror. Laminated glass is produced by bonding layers of glass together under pressure and heat, with a layer of film, called the interlayer, in between them. The interlayer absorbs the energy impact and allows the sheet as a whole to flex and bend. Although the glass may break, the glass fragments remain firmly bonded to the interlayer, minimizing the risk of injuries and or provide resistance to the passage of persons or objects. Laminated glass is also better for sound transmittance and UV protection. Adding the interlayer between the glasses is an excellent barrier for noise and the interlayer itself has additives that can screen out the damaging UV rays. PRL’s 96” x 153”state of the art lamination line can fabrication up to 3” overall. PRL’s laminated glass confirms to ANSI safety standards and will meet or exceed ASTM standards for Standard Specification for Laminated Architectural Flat Glass

PRL offers different types of interlayer’s. The most common interlayer is a tough, yet pliable material called polyvinyl butyral (PVB). PRL standard PVB’s consist of clear and three different types of white’s (65% Translucent White, 81% Sand White and 7% Shinning White). PRL has also extended our interlayer choices with modern glass options known as PRL Rainbow Interlayer. The PRL Rainbow Interlayer consists of 12 standard colors and can be combined with any other PVB we carry to create custom PRL Rainbow Interlayer colors. The standard shades were created to match industry standard glass tints, and now with the PRL Rainbow Interlayer’s architects and designers are allowed to achieve varying light transmissions without having to vary glass thickness or sacrifice structural performance. The PRL Rainbow Interlayer’s are made with heat and light stable pigments instead of dyes to resist fading. Another interlayer that PRL offers is the Sentry Glass Interlayer. The Sentry Glass Interlayer helps create lighter, safer and more structural glass that can stand up to greater loads and higher threat levers. The Sentry Glass Interlayer is 5 times stronger than PVB and is less susceptible to moisture intrusion or weather effects when laminated glass edges are exposed. The Sentry Glass interlayer is only available in clear.

PRL is also honored to be able to offer Bullet-Resistant Laminates. PRL’s Bullet-Resistant glass make up is a thinner and lighter alternative to the market and provides excellent no-spall ballistic protection. PRL’s Bullet-Resistant glass has an overall thickness of 1”and is made up of glass, PVB and Polycarbonate. PRL can make thicker overalls if requested. PRL’s Bullet-Resistant glass can be glazed in a wide variety of different glass make-ups and colors. We have tested our Ballistic Bullet-Resistant glass for levels 1 -3 ammunitions.

  • Level 1 - Medium Power Small Arms (9mm Full Metal Copper Jacket)
  • Level 2 – High Power Small Arms ( .357 Magnum)
  • Level 3 – Super Power Small Arms ( 44 Magnum)

PRL’s Bullet-Resistant glass is not considered physical attack-resistant or blast resistance. Consult PRL for full detail specifications and test reports.
